The Kauai Beach Guardians are an all volunteer organization of residents trained in CPR, First Aid and basic water rescues to be ready to help in a drowning emergency.

The Beach Guardians concept was implemented by John Tyler, a Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor for many years, after he heard about and subsequently met with the New Zealand Surf LifeSaving management. SLS-NZ 6,000 volunteer members are a model for our 85 charter members of the Beach Guardians.  The Kaua’i Rescue tube project was started about 2 years ago.  Rescue tubes are stationed at posts at unlifeguarded Kaua’i beaches, and citizen rescuers have saved 14 lives in the last 2 years with the help of these tubes.
