Happy Swimmers private lifeguard service began in 1991 in Los Angeles, and over the years, we’ve expanded to many metro areas nationwide, in the aim of truly preventing many of the drowning and near drowning accidents we’ve read about in the news. In 2009 we opened service in New York. We are the largest insured private lifeguard service in the country.

Specialties I can offer:

I have worked with children and adults with special needs, specifically individuals with developmental, behavioral, physical, congenital and sensory sensitivity disorders.

I am a certified lifeguard instructor and can teach Lifeguard training to a group of students 15 years or older. I have taught a total of 5 certification and re-certification lifeguarding courses, and several CPR re-certifications. I am also a certified WSI and taught swim lessons for children 2-14 with a wide range of abilities. During the summer of 2012 ran a swim program at a day camp for 4-6 year olds.

Total I have been an active lifeguard for 8 years and swim instruct for 5 years. I love to teach both swimming and lifeguarding, and have taught several LGT classes. I have background in occupational therapy, special education, swim coach, and have personal experience on a swim team. I love swimming and couldn’t imagine a better summer job than teaching and lifeguarding for the summer!

Hi my name is MaryKate Kelly. I am 20 years old and live on Long Island, NY. I am currently a Sophomore in college studying Developmental Psychology. I am approaching my 5th summer of Lifeguarding. "We have three kids ages 7, 4, and 2.5. This was our second year having Happy Swimmers, with instructor Trisha Commons, come teach our kids (the two oldest) to swim. I tried another company the year before I tried Happy Swimmers and although the kids learned swim safety, they were bored and did not learn how to enjoy the pool. Trisha got our son, who did not really like swimming, having fun and by the end of last year could swim the entire length of the pool on his own. Trisha is great with the kids and is flexible in her teaching style to work with different personalities. She is able to get the kids confident in their abilities and teaches them how to swim, but also teaches them how to have fun! This summer I reviewed several in-home companies and was impressed with Happy Swimmers approach of water safety. Trish worked with my stubborn 2-yr old 2-3 times a week. Within the first lesson he knew how to climb out of the pool and to ask permission before getting in. Although our goal was to get him water comfortable more than "swimming", he indeed learned to swim within a few weeks. We extended our lessons and really appreciated Trish's approach.
