Hello Happy Swimmers! My name is Andres Herrera and I love the water so much that I LITERALLY cant take my eyes off of it! I moved from El Paso, TX to San Antonio, TX at the beginning of 2023 and plan to take my life to the next level. I am a college student attending the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). I started lifeguarding with the YMCA in my hometown, Houston, TX and fell in love with my job there. Although lifeguarding involves being vigilant for long periods, I love the environment and being outside where people are having fun! I have been lifeguarding for 4 years along with being certified as a swim lessons instructor and lifeguard instructor with the YMCA of Greater Houston.

With 4 years prior experience, and 10 years of swimming experience, I am knowledgeable in swim instructing and all four strokes. I trained very hard to swim competitively and medaled in the Junior Olympics! Some of my past students have gone on to participate in the Iron Man.

I have 5 years of lifeguarding experience and over 10 years of swimming experience and a medal from the Junior Olympics! The best part about lifeguarding events is getting to have fun and meet great people, while keeping everyone safe.

I have been in Aquatics for 20 years! I started lifeguarding as a summer job in high school and quickly realized that this is the route I want to take with my career! In college I majored in Recreation Administration and now currently run an Aquatics Department for a country club. I have a true passion for water safety and know that all kids (and adults!) need to stay safe in and around the water and I’m here to provide that service! I love a good pool party and even when I’m not guarding, it’s really hard to not politely yell “Walk Please!”.

Hi, I am Leyna Zorn! I have been a competitive swimmer nearly my whole life and grown up around the pool. Since 12 years old I’ve helped volunteer with my neighborhood swim team, teaching the younger kids how to swim. My first paying job was a neighborhood pool lifeguard at age 15. My love for the water and heart for caring for kids is the reason I lifeguard. My main priority is the safety and well being of everyone under my care.

I’ve been a lifeguard since I was 16 and have always enjoyed working with people and clients ever since, so much so that I was able to turn it into my full time job working with the Air Force. My goal is to provide an environment that is safe, stress-free, and fun for all participants.

So the yellow cloth I have around my whistle is from the first summer I lifeguarded, one of my summer camp kids gave it to me. Lifeguarding was my first job at 16 and as an older brother, it’s always felt natural to lookout after those younger than me but through my life you can see how that’s extended onto everyone. From my military service to my current pursue in psychology. I’ve always just enjoyed helping others and it sure doesn’t hurt that I love the water, I am hoping to get scuba certified soon. So naturally, I am here as your lifeguard. It’s just a natural environment for me.

Hi! My name is Ry and I have been a lifeguard now for three years. I have experience in guarding those of ALL ages. I love every aspect of lifeguarding and it has been that way since I started. I go to UTSA for biology (I want to become a doctor) I believe that lifeguarding has prepared me to always be ready for anything, think critically, and save lives of course, and these are tools that I will carry through my career. When I am not guarding you can catch me swimming in any river, hanging out with my family, or playing video games.

My background is in the legal profession working as a legal secretary for many years. I stopped working to raise two children who are now young adults. My daughter is a teacher in the Portland school district, and my son is an artist who lives on the East coast. For the last twenty-four years, I worked as a Special Education Assistant in the Los Angeles Unified School District. For twenty of those years, I worked with at-risk students and students with special needs at the secondary level. These students resided in a residential facility, and I worked closely not only with the entire school staff but with the social workers and staff at the residential placement. I am excited to be part of the Management Team of Happy Swimmers and look forward to working with you.

I have worked as a swim instructor for 3 years and it is one of the most fun jobs that I have had. I love helping children gain confidence in the pool. It is one of the most rewarding feeling in the world to watch a child progress in their swimming ability. I love working with older children between ages 5-12. I have experience working with young children and have been told that I have a talent working with scared children in this age group. I also have experience working with adults of all swimming ability. I am currently a master instructor for Lifetime Fitness.

I have been a Lifeguard for 6 years, three of those years I worked as a waterfront lifeguard at a camp in Austin, Tx. The last 3 years I have worked for Lifetime Fitness in San Antonio as an Aquatics Supervisor in this role I help run swim programming and lifeguard management. As a lifeguard my number one priority is keeping everyone safe and stopping disasters before they happen. I am a fitness enthusiast and I am currently in the hiring process for the San Antonio Fire Department.

Lifeguarding is my second career! I retired from the Army in 2018 following a rewarding career as an Army Dietitian. Since then I have been teaching adults to swim at Life Time Athletics and Lifeguard for Happy Swimmers!!! My military background has served me well for my current position. I love serving my community and praise God I am in a position where I might be able to prevent a tragedy.
