Swimming Lesson Tip:
Floaties – These devices actually retard a child’s progress for proper swimming. Though parents use these with good intentions, the problem lies in that floaties are designed to keep the child vertical in the water, and a bent leg kick is then developed to navigate around the pool. When floaties are taken off, the child instinctively tries to kick the same way, and this kick forces her down under water and even greater fear sets in. Children who’ve not used floaties tend to learn about two to three times faster than the floaties kids. Not surprisingly this disclaimer is never found on the carton of floaties at the store.

Yumi and Jere were wonderful lifeguards when they guarded our end of year pool party on Wednesday June 11 from 11-2. They were in touch with me, were on time and prepared, and were very responsible and knowledgeable. I was so happy to be able to put two adults in charge of our fourth grade class party.
Based on my experience with Yumi Temple and her cohort Jere, I would highly recommend Happy Swimmers.
Thank you for a wonderful experience. So happy we used your business.
Hi Jenn.. wow today was really scary. I had to use my first aid skills on my mom! We work at the same preschool & she had an allergic reaction & went into shock! I did everything I remembered until the paramedics came.. I really can’t thank you enough for teaching me everything I needed to know!
Everything about my experience with Happy Swimmers has been amazing! From the scheduling to the fantastic teacher they sent for my 5 and 6 year old. The instructor, Emma, had to contend with 2 very different personalities along with 2 different levels of swimming experience. She was more than equipped to deal with that and gave each child unparalleled support, encouragement and instruction. I highly recommend this service to all parents that want to give their child a great experience in being water safe!
We have three kids ages 7, 4, and 2 & 1/2. This was our second year having Happy Swimmers, with instructor Trisha Commons, come teach our kids (the two oldest) to swim. I tried another company the year before I tried Happy Swimmers and although the kids learned swim safety, they were bored and did not learn how to enjoy the pool. Trisha got our son, who did not really like swimming, having fun and by the end of last year could swim the entire length of the pool on his own.
Trisha is great with the kids and is flexible in her teaching style to work with different personalities. She is able to get the kids confident in their abilities and teaches them how to swim, but also teaches them how to have fun! I will definitely be asking Happy Swimmers and Trisha to teach the kids again next year.
I have a toddler and a pool and wanted to make sure my son learned water safety. After taking some group classes last summer, I knew I wanted more one-on-one attention at our home. This summer I reviewed several in-home companies and was impressed with Happy Swimmers approach of water safety.
Trish worked with my stubborn 2-yr old 2-3 times a week. Within the first lesson he knew how to climb out of the pool and to ask permission before getting in. Although our goal was to get him water comfortable more than “swimming”, he indeed learned to swim within a few weeks. We extended our lessons and really appreciated Trish’s approach. We will sign up again next summer. Many of our friends with children happened to be present on several lessons and I expect they will also sign up next summer as well.
Hired a happy swimmers for private life guard for a party for over 200 people at my house. The lifeguard was great. She called to confirm before, came on time, and stayed later then we originally signed up because the party went over. She also showed up on time despite there being a black out that because of storms the day before. I highly recommend Happy Swimmers.

I love being able to help kids overcome fear of the water and share my passion for the water with as many people as I can. I have worked with Happy Swimmers since 2015 and I have been teaching my siblings and cousins to swim since I was 10 years old.
I have life guarded with Happy Swimmers since 2015, and before that I was guarding in my neighborhood for private parties. I enjoy working in a more relaxed, private setting, and I love watching people have a good time while also staying safe.

In my ten years as a swim instructor I have taught swim lessons to children of all ages, adults learning to swim for the first time, and adults taking lessons to improve technique. I have experience with students with special needs, stroke work, and water polo. My favorite part of teaching swim lessons is seeing my swimmers become more confident in the water and their abilities. I was a competitive swimmer for twelve years and played Water Polo through High School. I speak French, and I am Lifeguard, CPR/AED, and First Aid certified.
My favorite thing about Event Lifeguarding is the opportunity to be a part of your special day! I have ten years of lifeguard experience including open water, summer camp, water park, and poolside. I am also a swim instructor and have many years of experience working with children.
6 years experience swim teaching and lifeguarding
General areas served: Hollywood, West LA, Studio City, Burbank
SWIM INSTRUCTOR: I grew up around water most of my life but I really gained my passion for swimming in High school. I have taught for over 6 years now for multiple companies and facilities. Over my many years of teaching I have been able to piece together my own style of teaching that combines fun with efficiency! I love swimming and I love teaching people to swim, especially children and beginners because swimming is such an essential skill to have and it also can lead up to gaining a passion to an amazing sport!
EVENT LIFEGUARD: Safety is always a must! Growing up around water I know the unexpected dangers children and adults can face while being in a pool that’s why prevention is the most important thing. Being a Lifeguard for over 6 years I have worked in different cities and different facilities. I have always loved being a Lifeguard and knowing that I give people a relief and that they feel safe and I have always thought that you could mix little bit of fun in there while on duty!
Advanced Certifications: Water Safety Instructor, Emergency Oxygen training
6 years swim instructor experience
Common areas served:Chatsworth, Woodland Hills, Beverly Hills, Sherman Oaks, Studio City
I swam competitively for 15 years of my life. I started teaching swim lessons 6 years ago. I am currently working as a lifeguard at Pierce College and teaching swim lessons there as well. I also coach CCAT swim team at Pierce College. I like teaching swim lessons because I get great gratification out of seeing progress in my students and I love working with people. A fun fact about me is that I speak Spanish.
I started lifeguarding for private events 5 years ago. I began doing it on my own and when I was old enough, I applied to work for companies. Three and a half years ago, I started lifeguarding at Pierce College. I like lifeguarding events because you get to meet new people (Sometimes famous) and usually the events are very cool and exciting.
Caitlin serves all of West LA, Sherman Oaks, Studio City, Encino
I’ve been working as a swim coach for the past two summers. I coached swimming lessons, competitive swimming, masters swimming and water polo to all ages! I also have experience working with children who have special needs in the water. I’ve grown up as a competitive swimmer and have played varsity water polo throughout high school. I’m super excited to be playing water polo next year for my university!
Swim Instructor Bio:
Teaching swim lessons is rewarding because you are essentially saving a kid’s life by teaching them how to be safe in and around the water. Nothing is better than seeing a child progress over a short amount of time from being a non-swimmer to a proficient swimmer. I have 12+ years of competitive swimming underneath my belt and have many tools to work with children of all ages and abilities to teach them how to become better swimmers themselves. In my spare time I like to go to the beach and surf, because I can’t stay away from water!
I have been lifeguarding for the past 4 years at many different locations throughout the Orange County area, and for the college that I attend. My experiences as a lifeguard and a collegiate swimmer have taught me to notice which kids are strong swimmers and which kids are not, that way I am able to keep a closer watch on those that are not as strong of swimmers. While lifeguarding I remain focused and on high alert at all times to be ready for anything. I have experience lifeguarding busy public pools and watching kids of all ages.
Common areas I serve: La Palma, Cerritos, Cypress, Lakewood, Long Beach, Los Alamitos, Buena Park, Anaheim areas
15 years experience teaching swimming!
Christina generally serves Santa Monica and the Westside, from the Ocean to West Hollywood Hills.
Swim Instructor Bio:
She says: The moment I see swimming “click” in a student, I feel a wave of happiness- their giant smile glowing, where once a timid or nervous excitement challenged their own self confidence. I have seen hundreds of these smiles, from young ones to golden aged students, and it never fails to fill me with a sense of purpose.
I try to apply all my years of teaching swimmers to each and every new student’s learning abilities. What may work for one does not always transfer. When I was a zookeeper, I learned that positive reinforcement is the best and least stressful way to teach even the most stubborn tiger or sea lion to accept medical treatments, and swim beautifully (even the tiger!). Hopefully none of my human trainees will be as tough, but I am up for the challenge!
As a Master’s student in Anthropology I have learned to apply my observational skills to the pool too. Knowing how a student can adapt to the new challenge of swimming is not unlike understanding how different cultures learn to adapt to societies’ challenges.
I plan to use all my various experiences from Jr. Lifeguard instructor, Beach Lifeguard, Zookeeper, and Grad school to influence the unique and focused attention I will give while teaching a new swimmer.
Everyone deserves the ability to enjoy swimming and feel confident too. I can’t wait to welcome others into the water
Event Lifeguard Bio: From my first big swim in the Pacific, and subsequent pummeling from an unexpected wave, I have loved lifeguards. I became a Jr. Lifeguard at age 7 after my unfortunate tossing in the white water, and began to understand the importance of water safety. The foundational learning of this program gave me the passion for ocean and pool awareness I have today. During my formative years I began to play water polo and lifeguard after practice for our school’s younger swimmers. I continued to play competitively in college and became a Jr. Guard Instructor as well as an Ocean Lifeguard. My love of the water has stayed with me even when I became a Zookeeper after earning my bachelor’s, where I swam for exercise. The observational skills and preventative efforts I practiced daily when caring for Orangutans and Harbor Seals helped maintain my lifeguarding prowess. When I became a researcher of Orangutans in Indonesia and began my graduate schooling, I knew event lifeguarding would be a great way to support my education while honing my observational techniques. Scanning the trees for primate behaviors is perfect practice for scanning the water area for potentially distressed swimmers and vice versa. I love all primates, humans included, and I will work hard to keep all of them safe and happy- inside the water and out!
Advanced certifications:Open Water Lifeguard Experience, Scuba cert
8 years experience swim teaching!
Some of the city areas I serve:Northridge, Encino, Van Nuys, Burbank
I have been teaching swim lessons since I was 15 (it was the very first job I ever had!) and I still love it to this day. I’ve worked with babies as young as 6 months all the way up to teenagers preparing for high school swim teams. I also have taught beginning to advanced adult lessons. I am a certified personal trainer and group exercise instructor, so I love tailoring lessons to each individual! No matter the age or ability level, the best part is seeing the progress someone makes when they overcome previous obstacles, such as putting their head underwater or diving in the deep end!
Swim Instructor role: Growing up in the West Valley with a backyard pool, I learned to swim at a young age and got into water polo during high school and college. Water sports like surfing and sailing are hobbies of mine and I first started teaching private swim lessons shortly after I started my teaching career at Hoover High School in 1996. I still currently teach Health and PE while also serving in my Coast Guard reserve unit in San Pedro as a First Class Marine Science Technician. My son in grade school has been competing for two years on a swim team and loves it. All kids should have that opportunity.
Event Lifeguard role: Aside from the last two years working for Happy Swimmers, friends and family would ask me to act as a life guard for pool parties and functions when I became Red Cross certified for water safety and CPR. A good life guard takes preventative measures to mitigate potential hazards by identifying them early before the function begins. Done properly, pool saves are few and quick. I love the anticipation of potential challenges that each venue may pose and being a part of a random family”s fun safe memories they will have.
I have 2 years experience serving general areas including Beverly Hills, Burbank, La Crescenta as a lifeguard for hire.

Swimming is a life skill you must learn in my opinion sort of like riding a bike. I take great passion in what I do and safety always comes first.
Lifeguarding in the Summer is one of the best jobs for a college student I believe. What’s more fun then being by the water and soaking in the sun in the midst of Summer? I remember going to the pool every summer and talking to the lifeguards. I always thought they looked so cool and what kid didn’t want to be cool? I have guarded for a little more then a year now and I can honestly say I love it knowing the importance of saving one’s life or being able to prevent a terrible accident is a very important job. Makes you feel like a bit of a hero.

I pride myself on the fundamentals of water safety, on all levels of learning. He loves teaching in the water, and has agreed to continue serving his past years’ students on LA’s Westside: Santa Monica, Pacific Palisades, Brentwood, Westwood, Bel Air, Beverly Hills, and Hollywood Hills. He’s a busy guy, even in retirement!
After retiring from a 25-year career with Air France at the end of 2006, Rob created a consulting company that specializes in several areas including swim instruction. He began swimming competitively in AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) meets at the age of 10. By the age of 13, he was teaching swimming to neighborhood children including those with special needs and those with a fear of water. Rob thinks that being young at heart is a reason that both children and adults trust him. “After all, swimming is fun and that is what has to be conveyed to a student. There is nothing better than seeing a smile on the face of someone who has just overcome a fear or an obstacle to fulfill a goal.” With teaching water safety and confidence as the number one priority, he individualizes each lesson to the needs of the student with emphasis on creativity and fun.
