San Jose CA Swim Lessons
Private Swim Lessons
Happy Swimmers started teaching at-home swim lessons in 1991 in Los Angeles, with 22 clients. In 2001 we began serving Silicon Valley, based in San Jose. We are the largest and longest established mobile swim lesson company in Santa Clara County.
The San Jose area is home to many fine swim schools and city programs, so why do we offer swimming lessons? Some kids do well in boisterous social large group swim lessons, but many kids do not, and prefer a quiet, trusting setting of their own home pool and a dedicated, kind-hearted, patient instructor. Our San Jose swim lessons specialize in the in the latter style of teaching.
Do we serve your San Jose area with swim lessons? If you’re in Silicon Valley, the answer is yes.
Swim Lesson Tip:
When taking a child under, do so smoothly and then take them back up to the surface smoothly. This is key for parents who wish to practice with their child. 100 times over, the parent when taking the child under will be very abrupt going under and coming up, and the child responds to the force of the parent’s movements much more so than the actual going under. Explain once again…. Smooth and calm submersions. A child can hold their breath easily for at least 5-7 seconds. That’s a long time. Give it a try…. A thousand one… a thousand two …a thousand three…a thousand four…a thousand five…a thousand six…a thousand seven (plenty of time to do it smoothly and gently.) Also, submersions are done not vertically, by trained instructors, but scooping side to side like a pendulum. This creates an air pocket next to the child’s nose and avoids water intake.

Yumi and Jere were wonderful lifeguards when they guarded our end of year pool party on Wednesday June 11 from 11-2. They were in touch with me, were on time and prepared, and were very responsible and knowledgeable. I was so happy to be able to put two adults in charge of our fourth grade class party.
Based on my experience with Yumi Temple and her cohort Jere, I would highly recommend Happy Swimmers.
Thank you for a wonderful experience. So happy we used your business.
Hi Jenn.. wow today was really scary. I had to use my first aid skills on my mom! We work at the same preschool & she had an allergic reaction & went into shock! I did everything I remembered until the paramedics came.. I really can’t thank you enough for teaching me everything I needed to know!
Everything about my experience with Happy Swimmers has been amazing! From the scheduling to the fantastic teacher they sent for my 5 and 6 year old. The instructor, Emma, had to contend with 2 very different personalities along with 2 different levels of swimming experience. She was more than equipped to deal with that and gave each child unparalleled support, encouragement and instruction. I highly recommend this service to all parents that want to give their child a great experience in being water safe!
We have three kids ages 7, 4, and 2 & 1/2. This was our second year having Happy Swimmers, with instructor Trisha Commons, come teach our kids (the two oldest) to swim. I tried another company the year before I tried Happy Swimmers and although the kids learned swim safety, they were bored and did not learn how to enjoy the pool. Trisha got our son, who did not really like swimming, having fun and by the end of last year could swim the entire length of the pool on his own.
Trisha is great with the kids and is flexible in her teaching style to work with different personalities. She is able to get the kids confident in their abilities and teaches them how to swim, but also teaches them how to have fun! I will definitely be asking Happy Swimmers and Trisha to teach the kids again next year.
I have a toddler and a pool and wanted to make sure my son learned water safety. After taking some group classes last summer, I knew I wanted more one-on-one attention at our home. This summer I reviewed several in-home companies and was impressed with Happy Swimmers approach of water safety.
Trish worked with my stubborn 2-yr old 2-3 times a week. Within the first lesson he knew how to climb out of the pool and to ask permission before getting in. Although our goal was to get him water comfortable more than “swimming”, he indeed learned to swim within a few weeks. We extended our lessons and really appreciated Trish’s approach. We will sign up again next summer. Many of our friends with children happened to be present on several lessons and I expect they will also sign up next summer as well.
Hired a happy swimmers for private life guard for a party for over 200 people at my house. The lifeguard was great. She called to confirm before, came on time, and stayed later then we originally signed up because the party went over. She also showed up on time despite there being a black out that because of storms the day before. I highly recommend Happy Swimmers.

Swim Instructor Bio: Hello! I’ve been teaching for 8 years now and I absolutely love the water. It’s a great way to get in shape, cool off, chill out, or play around in. I also think it’s an important and valuable life skill to understand how to navigate our aquatic environment, that’s why I like to focus on water safety in my swim lessons. Fun Fact: I was raised at a pool, so it feels like my second home. It would be a pleasure to teach any and all levels.

I have been a swim instructor for 6 years and love teaching children how to swim . The best part of teaching swim lessons is seeing the progression of my students. There is nothing more satisfying than when a student understands how a certain swim stroke is swam!
I have also been a lifeguard for 6 years, and before I could work professionally I was a junior guard for 3 years. I always wanted to be a lifeguard ever since I was 11 and started swim team and would see the lifeguards up on the stands. The best part about lifeguarding is providing a fun, but safe swimming environment for others to enjoy. Fun Fact: I am going to school to be a music teacher and I currently can play 10 different instruments!

My favorite part of teaching swim lessons is being able to help kids gain confidence in the water! I find nothing to be more gratifying than when I am able to teach a child how to swim and see how far they are able to come throughout our lesson. I have taught swim lessons and assisted with our Jr. Swim program for 3 years at our community pool. I have always loved the water and want others to be able to not be afraid of it. Fun fact: I taught my little sister how to swim when she was 3 and I was 5!
I have been a lifeguard for my community pool in Sutter, Ca for the past three years. This will be my fourth year lifeguarding and I love that this job allows me to meet and interact with new people all of the time! I have experience in doing private parties, swim lessons, and large group events such as day camps. When I am not lifeguarding I enjoy baking, traveling babysitting and spending quality time with my family. I am currently a full time student at Yuba College with goals to transfer to Sonoma State next year!

I enjoy teaching technique and stroke work, but regardless of the level, safety is my top priority.
I teach water safety by building a loving, trusting relationship with all students, both children and adults, through private swim lessons. I have worked with individuals with special needs, too. I like to give ways to practice and promote even greater learning in-between the lessons and taught children how to survive falls into the water. I love seeing kids grow in their strength and having fun! With my 10 years of experience so far, I have also coached water polo (I was a goalie) and swimming teams, and was a diver in high school.

Hi, my name is Maggie and I’ve been teaching swim lessons for 4 years with ages 6 months to 12 years old. I’ve also worked with children for 7 years as a tutor, nanny, babysitter and mentor while working towards a bachelors degree in 2021. I love working with children and making a difference much like many mentors did for me. Before becoming a lifeguard, I was a member of a local swim team for 10 years.
I have also been a lifeguard for 4 years. I began my love for water growing up in and around a pool starting swim team at age 5 and continuing until age 15 when I became a lifeguard. I have a passion for water and water sports as they have always been a part of my life and I would like to share my passion while reinforcing safety in a fun environment. My favorite part about lifeguarding events is getting to know new people and watching others share my passion and love for water.

I also played water polo throughout the time I was swimming competitively. Even though I’ve been only teaching for 3 years, I specialize in water babies, toddlers, adults, and special needs students especially with ADHD, autism and cerebral palsy students. My mission is to give back to the community by teaching everyone how to be safe and comfortable in the water. Best Regards, Ploy

Swim Instructor Bio: Hi, my name is Qi and I am going into my 6th year as a swim instructor. I have taught lessons for various age groups, ranging from parent and child to adult lessons. What I enjoy most from teaching swim lessons is helping my students learn something new and being able to see them improve over time. I believe that anyone can learn how to swim as long as they believe in themselves and are willing to try something different.
Lifeguard Bio: Hi I’m Qi. I have been lifeguarding for the past 5 years. I enjoy making sure everyone is safe and having a great time at the pool. What I like most about lifeguarding events is being able to prevent any accidents from happening so that the parents can feel at ease while their guests are in the pool enjoying themselves. I typically guard in Palo Alto, San Jose, and Atherton.

Hello! My names Victoria and I have been teaching kids to swim for over 3 years. Prior to swim instructing I was swimming at the competitive level for over 10 years. I love teaching kids of all ages and my experience ranges from teaching ages 4 months to adults. In my experience the earlier kids start the better, the water is waiting! I love teaching kids both the technical aspects of the strokes and also just helping them get comfortable in the water. Teaching swim lessons is so rewarding to me because I know I’m helping someone learn such an important life skill. A little fun fact about me is that I love to travel the world!
I have also been professionally lifeguarding for over three years! Lifeguarding is one of my absolute favorite jobs because I get to be by the pool, which I love, and also ensure that I’m keeping my fellow swimmers safe. My intention when guarding is to create a safe environment where all swimmers are at ease and having a blast in the pool. I love getting to watch people enjoying the water while knowing they are safe.
I serve the Sacramento communities of Elk Grove, Sacramento, Davis, Roseville, among others.
