Originally from North Carolina, I spent nearly half of my life as a competitive swimmer (from 8 until 22 years old). I swam competitively for a NCAA Division I Swimming & Diving program in North Carolina and served as co-captain during my junior and senior years of college. I have over 10 years experience teaching swim lessons, including several years coaching competitive swimmers. I am passionate about teaching others to swim and believe swimming is a skill that can be enjoyed throughout the entire lifespan. Along with teaching swim lessons, I teach psychology courses at Austin Community College. My teaching style incorporates laughter and loving kindness.

I was swimming before I was walking so this sport is in my blood! Growing up, I took semi-private lessons at a local pool and that is where I learned not only how to be a great swimmer, but also how important it is for the instructor to be sensitive to the needs of the students. Because I was so shy, I often felt intimidated during the lessons so I as an adult, I am extremely sensitive to these type feelings. I was on the swim team all throughout high school. During and after high school, I worked for the YMCA year-round lifeguarding and teaching swim lessons both public and private. I also coached a children’s swim team and have extensive experience working at all levels of swimming. I enjoy teaching diverse personality types and students of all ages. I especially like to incorporate a lot of water toys and games into each lesson because I feel students tend to learn better and faster when they are at ease both in the water and with the instructor. It is important to me for each student to have a pleasurable swimming experience while learning! I sincerely look forward to teaching your swimmer-to-be!
