I love to help people.

In my day-to-day life, I’m an astronomy student at the University of Florida and I work in a lab building optics for gravitational wave-detecting satellites! Over the summers and weekends, though, I am a lifeguard through and through.

I have spent the past three years guarding at theme parks, university pools, and everything in between. My favorite lifeguarding experience has been in Discovery Cove’s river aviary, but a close second is watching kids enjoy their birthday parties! I love to help people feel as comfortable and safe in the water as I do, and while safety is my number one priority, my patrons always enjoy their time.

Nick Brown – LG & LGI – Avid Universal Goer

Orlando, FL

Hi my name is Nick and I am a Florida native with a great Jamaican heritage. The reason that I first got into lifeguarding was because I got a summer job at a sleep away summer camp. I remember being pretty nervous my first couple times guarding. However, from that experience my confidence grew and after 4 years of that, I have learned so much about myself and my leadership ability. I acquired my lifeguard trainer certification and have put it to good use since.

The reason I love event lifeguarding is because on top of keeping everyone safe, I love being a part of the excitement going on around me.

Nico, Lifeguard & PhD in “The Office”

I have lifeguarded many BSA volunteer events and also worked at Harbour Island Athletic Club during the 2019 summer. My goal when lifeguarding is to provide an environment for all patrons to enjoy themselves, while still remaining safe. What I enjoy most about guarding events is being able to meet new people and helping them to have a safer and more enjoyable event.

Serving: Brandon, Valrico, Tampa, Plant City

After graduating high school I became a full time life guard and I loved my job, sadly I had to leave in order to complete my bachelors degree. I can’t wait to get back into the swing of things and do what I love again.

Stephanie, East Coast Lifeguard Assignment Manager and Pack of Jac’s mom

My background is in the legal profession working as a legal secretary for many years. I stopped working to raise two children who are now young adults. My daughter is a teacher in the Portland school district, and my son is an artist who lives on the East coast. For the last twenty-four years, I worked as a Special Education Assistant in the Los Angeles Unified School District. For twenty of those years, I worked with at-risk students and students with special needs at the secondary level. These students resided in a residential facility, and I worked closely not only with the entire school staff but with the social workers and staff at the residential placement. I am excited to be part of the Management Team of Happy Swimmers and look forward to working with you.
