Ever since a child I was always in the water. Being born in urban New York City my mother wanted me to learn how to swim. After completing all the learn to swim program levels, I decided to push myself further and become a lifeguard. Though I enjoy guarding, however my heart remains primarily as an instructor. Being able to positively change a child’s life, give them confidence in and out of the water is priceless. These are all things I wish to instill in my students, as well as my own son.

I just finished my sophomore year at Penn State University, where I swim for their club swim team and study elementary education. I’ve worked at the YMCA for the summer camp program and I lifeguard at my church every once in while for birthday parties or any parties someone books on the campus. Hello, my name is Andrew Sears. I’ve always had a strong connection to the water and a passion for spending time at the beach, which led me to pursue a role in the aquatic field. For the past two years, I’ve worked as a lifeguard for the City of Riverside, where I’ve gained valuable experience ensuring the safety of swimmers of all ages and responding effectively to a wide range of situations. Through this role, I’ve developed strong communication skills, quick decision-making abilities, and a deep sense of responsibility.

My name is Bo Bershatsky and I am from San Francisco. I have been lifeguarding for a year and a half now. I have loved the water ever since I was little and I lifeguard so I can give back what the water gave me as a kid. Outside of lifeguarding I enjoy working out and skiing.

I was introduced to guarding in 1973 when I finally passed a gruesome endurance test to become a lifeguard at a NJ state park on the ocean. Gruesome because the distance and sprint swims were in 64 degree water. I worked 3 summers, took 2 off, and returned for a 4th year. I also guarded at a lake owned by the university I was attending in Florida over the winters. Most recently, I renewed by lifeguard cert and began working at a local Y in October 2021 and have been working part time since then. I enjoy my coworkers and the Y community and try to make everyone’s experience at the pool as welcoming and safe as possible.

My life guarding experience started when I was just in high school. At first I was doing it for extra money so my intention was to get paid, now I take a genuine interest in the patrons of any pool whether I’m guarding or not; my goal is to make sure everyone is safe and most of all having fun and enjoying the pools’ environment. And that’s what I enjoy most because my life guarding experience now is better because I’m not worried about getting paid I’m worried about the people at the pool first then everything else will take care of itself.

I have been Lifeguarding for close to 5 years and have always loved the water ever since I took swim lessons as a kid. My intention is to prevent any life threatening injuries while on duty and educate pool patrons about safety in or out of the water. It is a commitment of mine to engage w/ the event staff and proactively develop an appropriate EAP (emergency action plan) incase we need to activate a rescue. Hi, my name is Daryl. I moved to Austin just last spring and my first year here has been a blast!
I was born in El Paso,TX where I lived with my parents and two younger siblings until I was about four years old when my father was stationed in Darmstadt, Germany and my family moved overseas. From there, I spent most of my childhood growing up all over Europe and though traveling was fun for a while, it got old really fast. So I stayed connected to our hometown through stories from my parents about their adventures “back home” and what it was like growing up in EP in the 80’s and 90’s – nope, there’s not much age difference between my parents and I – but eventually the stories weren’t enough so after A LOT of begging, we were stationed at Ft. Bliss and back in EP. Moving back to the states as a teen was a culture shock to say the least, but I had been swimming competitively since pre-K and I was just excited to finally be swimming for a school that wasn’t just another pit-stop for me. Afterwards, I continued traveling – for the first time, on my own – to a University in Dallas where I did even more competitive swimming and took some time to study Business Management. For my final year, I transferred to a school in West Palm Beach, FL where I earned my BBA and fell in love with ocean swimming. However, I was back in the EP desert the next year where I stayed until last year when I moved here, immediately bought a paddle board, spending all my time outdoors and around water, started working with Happy Swimmers and am doing more swimming now than ever before and that’s something I could not be happier about. 

I started doing lifeguarding in high school in AZ, and then continued to do it in MD till I moved back to AZ and will continue to do lifeguarding indefinitely. While on duty, I want to prevent accidents from happening in the first place.

I love teaching people how to swim! I have taught swim lessons for six years excluding my own personal experience with swim. Greetings, I’m Arthur! I have been a Lifeguard and Swim Instructor for over 25 years.

I’m from Chicago. I’ve had a beautiful relationship with the water since I was a child. I was on the swim team in high school and the water polo club in my neighborhood park where I first learned to swim as a child. Years later at that same park I became a Lifeguard for the Chicago Park District. I later lifeguarded and became a Swim Instructor at Richard J Daley College and also at the YMCA in Illinois and in Hollywood, California. Since 2002 I’ve been a Behavior Specialist, Lifeguard, Water Safety Instructor and CPR Instructor at a non public school in Cheviot Hills (West LA). I work with emotionally disturbed children who are diagnosed with Autism, bipolar disorder, ADHD and a host of other Mental illness and psychiatric disorders. Hello, my name is Kendrick. I’m a recently Certified American Red Cross Lifeguard. In addition to my day job, as a Fixed Income Specialist, I am an Assistant Scoutmaster with Boy Scout Troop 773 in Irving, TX. I made the decision to become a Lifeguard after completing BSA Aquatic Supervision & Water Rescue Training. I developed a love for swimming as a form of exercise following 20+ years as an amateur cyclist, and the addition of a few extra pounds. An important component of safety comes from “Being Prepared” (Scout’s Motto) for emergencies should they occur, but perhaps more practically, Prevention. I have over 6 years experience working with kids through scouting, and believe in living the 12 points of the Scout Law (ask me to recite them sometime ;). As a business professional, I strongly believe in providing excellent client service, and developing lasting relationships by treating individuals the way I expect to be treated.

I am the recipient of the Autism Speaks grant to provide free swim lessons to autistic children. I currently serve on the Board of Directors for the State of Florida to approve new aquatic programs. I love all levels of instruction.

I served for ten years at the National Aquatic Safety School in Texas as an Instructor Trainer. As a Special Olympics Tier 2 Swim Coach I am eligible to take teams to national competitions. I am certified as a National Water Fitness Instructor and trained Total Immersion. I serve on the Board of Directors for the Florida Aquatic Council overseeing the development of aquatics in the State of Florida. Also, on the Board of Directors for the State of Florida to approve new aquatic programs within the state. I am a member of Association of Aquatic Professionals, National Parks and Recreation, and World Water Park Association. I work at RB swim and tennis and I just got certified from Happy Swimmers.

Most of my lifeguarding experience has been in and around country clubs since 2020 and i loved it so much that i joined happy swimmers in 2021. I wanted to guard events outside of work so that i could meet new people that i otherwise wouldn’t have the chance to! Before that i was working as a swim instructor and as much as i loved teaching the little ones, it was too much on my ears and i couldn’t be in the water every day like i wanted to. That’s why lifeguarding was the perfect amount of enjoying the water while also being able to keep my ears dry (for the most part at least haha). I’ve worked my way up and now i’m an aquatics director and have the opportunity to still work events whenever i get the chance to. Besides lifeguarding, i love spending my time skateboarding with my friends down at the local skateparks and creating art on my nails. Lifeguarding gives me a sense of purpose by being able to help people in need, while skateboarding and doing my nails give me a creative outlet to express myself.

I’ve been swimming since I was 6 mo old when my mom and I did a swim class together. I’m in my first year of college preparing to go to the fire academy.

Since I was a child I was always close to the water, in my adolescence I spent three years in the national swimming school in Cuba, as swimming instructor since 1996 I worked several summers in Cuba. In 2007 I went to live in Spain where I also worked as a swimming instructor in 2012 I went to live in Sardinia, Italy where I worked as a private swimming instructor for three years, I like this job because swimming is the most complete sport, it is also very important to learn to swim by your own security, there is a risk of death by drowning very high in the world, I personally think that all people should know how to swim or know how to be safe in an aquatic environment

 As a lifeguard I worked two summers in Cuba, before starting in the university, where I studied pedagogy in appreciation of art. In 2007 I went to live in Spain where I also work as a lifeguard in 2012. Hi! My name is Ry and I have been a lifeguard now for three years. I have experience in guarding those of ALL ages. I love every aspect of lifeguarding and it has been that way since I started. I go to UTSA for biology (I want to become a doctor) I believe that lifeguarding has prepared me to always be ready for anything, think critically, and save lives of course, and these are tools that I will carry through my career. I grew up with a pool in my backyard and so I learned to love the water at a young age. After I moved here to San Diego in 2018 I continued to work as a lifeguard and swim instructor in the much sunnier California weather!
