San Diego Swim Lessons

Private Swim Lessons

Happy Swimmers started teaching at-home swim lessons in 1991 in Los Angeles, with 22 clients. In 2001 we began serving San Diego County. We are the largest and longest established mobile swim lesson company in San Diego County. We predominantly serve San Diego City and its adjoining communities. By special arrangement we can likely serve North County clients, but additional flexibility of dates and times may be needed.
Our general San Diego swimming lesson service area is within a triangle from La Jolla east to Santee, and south to Chula Vista. Please contact us to learn more about our San Diego swim lessons

Swim Lesson Tip:

Regarding distractions, the noisier or more stimulus in the swim lesson environment, the less learning. This is why some parents opt for in-home lessons rather than public lessons. On one hand, public lessons can be a great social scene for both parents and kids, and this works for some; for others, however, trust of the water is built more easily in one’s own pool. Simply asking the child their preference may be the key.
This was one swimming lesson tip in a series sprinkled around our website. For the complete list, Visit our swim lesson tips and FAQ tab, and to get more tips and specials, follow us on Twitter.

San Diego Swim Lessons Staff

Hannah Naten, Swim Instructor, Lifeguard, Adventure Seeker and Coffee Addict

Sacramento, CA

Hello, my name is Hannah and I have been a lifeguard for six years as well as a pool manager for two years! I started swimming competitively when I was five years old (hard to believe that that was 16 years ago!) and I am passionate about sharing my love of the water by ensuring that it is safe and fun for all those who want to enjoy it! I am also a nursing student at the moment (one more year and I will have my BSN and RN degrees) and love using my knowledge to make extra-sure that everyone is safe and having a blast at whatever event is occurring. I love lifeguarding events: I am a big people-person, I love the outdoors, and I love the water! I want to make sure whichever event I am invited to I can help the event run smoothly as well as make it enjoyable for all parties present. A fun fact about me: I just got back from 3 months in South Africa working in clinics and going on adventures, so if you want to see cool photos and videos of shark cage diving, bungee jumping and safaris, I would love to share!

I love teaching people how to swim! I have taught swim lessons for six years excluding my own personal experience with swim. I have taught between the age ranges of 6 months to 84 years old, so I am comfortable with teaching just about everything! I can teach the basics of strokes, refinement of stroke technique, as well as simply getting comfortable in the water and learning how to swim and be safe in water for the first time! Swim lessons hold a special place in my heart because I would never be who I am today if I did not having amazing instructors help me not only gain skills swimming but also making me feel comfortable with my abilities as well as gain confidence. Fun fact about me: my favorite stroke is backstroke, and my favorite race was the 200 meter back– not a popular favorite but loads of fun to me!

Maddy, Private Swim Instructor and Professional Dog Walker

Encinitas

Hello my name is Maddy! I have been actively teaching swim lessons for over 5 years now. I was a youth swim instructor at the YMCA for over 2 years, primarily teaching the infant/toddler swim classes, but have worked with all age ranges and skill levels! I am happy to teach beginner swimmers or those ranging up to swim team level. I have swam competitively for 10 years, along with playing club water polo at University for 2 years.

I am currently studying Nursing and Spanish at University of San Francisco, but working in San Diego this summer! I have also been babysitting for 6 years and throughout my time at university I have also been working for Wag and Rover dog walking companies. I am very comfortable watching over multiple children at one time. I offer a calm demeanor with children and lots of patience! I hope to work with children in my future nursing career as well.

I love going to the beach and surfing as much as I can during the summer time in San Diego. In my free time I also enjoy yoga, riding my bike and trying out new recipes! I have a passion for teaching others the lifelong skill of swimming and have absolutely loved my previous experiences working with all ranges of people at my job. I hope to see you in the pool!

I serve the San Diego communities of San Diego, Encinitas, Leucadia, Carlsbad, San Marcos, Vista, Poway, among others.

Onai Colon, Swim Instructor, Lifeguard, Beach Bum

San Diego, CA

Swim Instructor:

I have one and a half years of swimming instruction experience. I’ve taught clients from all ages and skill levels, including mommy and me classes and active duty swim lessons. I believe that learning how to swim should be fun, enjoyable, and safe.

Lifeguard:

I provided lifeguarding services for Marine Cops base Camp Lejune for 2 years. During my time with them we were required to have 4 hours of training regarding lifeguarding every month. While I was working with them I also acquired my Lifeguard Instructor, and swim instructor certifications. The reason I enjoy lifeguarding so much is because, I believe that patrons of all ages should be able to enjoy themselves and feel safe in the water.

QI | Swim Instructor And Life Guard | San Diego, CA

Qi, San Diego Swim Instructor and Lifegaurd

San Jose

General areas I have served include San Diego

Swim Instructor Bio: Hi, my name is Qi and I am going into my 7th year as a swim instructor. I have taught lessons for various age groups, ranging from parent and child to adult lessons. What I enjoy most from teaching swim lessons is helping my students learn something new and being able to see them improve over time. I believe that anyone can learn how to swim as long as they believe in themselves and are willing to try something different.

Lifeguard Bio: Hi I’m Qi. I have been lifeguarding for the past 6 years. I enjoy making sure everyone is safe and having a great time at the pool. What I like most about lifeguarding events is being able to prevent any accidents from happening so that the parents can feel at ease while their guests are in the pool enjoying themselves.

Serena Whitaker, Event Lifeguard, Swim Instructor, Bird Enthusiast, Parrot Owner and trainer

San Diego, CA

I grew up with a pool in my backyard and so I learned to love the water at a young age. I have four years of experience working as a lifeguard in indoor and outdoor settings as well as guarding summer camp events. My first lifeguard and swim instructor job was at my local YMCA back when I lived in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. After I moved here to San Diego in 2018 I continued to work as a lifeguard and swim instructor in the much sunnier California weather! I believe that water safety is extremely important and so I do not take my job lightly. Working as a lifeguard is lots of fun because I am able to interact with many people while also having the skills and training to keep them safe around the pool!

I first started teaching swim lessons at my local YMCA in 2017. Since then I have 3 years of experience teaching private and group lessons year round. I have the most experience with preschool age groups, but I have taught many lessons from parent-child to elementary levels. The best part about teaching swim lessons is that I get to see kids grow confident in themselves and learn life-saving skills. Teaching swim lessons is so rewarding because I’ve helped many kids learn to not be afraid of the water and learn the importance of water safety.
