I love ending my day at work knowing I created a safe and enjoyable pool environment. I’ve lifeguarded at various sized parties (even over 120 swimmers) and a wide variety of events. My composure under stress and observance resulted in the 5 rescues I had my first week as a guard (including saving 2 toddlers at once)!

Hi, my name is Daryl. I moved to Austin just last spring and my first year here has been a blast!
I was born in El Paso,TX where I lived with my parents and two younger siblings until I was about four years old when my father was stationed in Darmstadt, Germany and my family moved overseas. From there, I spent most of my childhood growing up all over Europe and though traveling was fun for a while, it got old really fast. So I stayed connected to our hometown through stories from my parents about their adventures “back home” and what it was like growing up in EP in the 80’s and 90’s – nope, there’s not much age difference between my parents and I – but eventually the stories weren’t enough so after A LOT of begging, we were stationed at Ft. Bliss and back in EP. Moving back to the states as a teen was a culture shock to say the least, but I had been swimming competitively since pre-K and I was just excited to finally be swimming for a school that wasn’t just another pit-stop for me. Afterwards, I continued traveling – for the first time, on my own – to a University in Dallas where I did even more competitive swimming and took some time to study Business Management. For my final year, I transferred to a school in West Palm Beach, FL where I earned my BBA and fell in love with ocean swimming. However, I was back in the EP desert the next year where I stayed until last year when I moved here, immediately bought a paddle board, spending all my time outdoors and around water, started working with Happy Swimmers and am doing more swimming now than ever before and that’s something I could not be happier about. 

With 4 years prior experience, and 10 years of swimming experience, I am knowledgeable in swim instructing and all four strokes. I trained very hard to swim competitively and medaled in the Junior Olympics! Some of my past students have gone on to participate in the Iron Man.

I have 5 years of lifeguarding experience and over 10 years of swimming experience and a medal from the Junior Olympics! The best part about lifeguarding events is getting to have fun and meet great people, while keeping everyone safe.

I’m deeply passionate about football and have dedicated countless hours to perfecting my game. Off the field, I’ve found fulfillment in lifeguarding, a skill that led my team to victory at the state level. Cooking is another passion of mine, and I love experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen. Nature is where I find peace and reflection, often exploring the outdoors in my free time. Whether I’m scoring touchdowns, saving lives, whipping up culinary delights, or immersing myself in nature’s beauty, I approach each adventure with enthusiasm, dedication, and do not slack.

I am attending the University of Michigan next year as an economics major and I love volunteering and babysitting in my free time. I also love running and reading and am completing my first half marathon this summer!

I am a 17 year old student at Ann Richards. I love cats, theatre, and film production. I swam competitively when I was younger and now I am proud to be a lifeguard and swim instructor! I have been lifeguarding at the YMCA for a little over a year now. I’m heading into my second summer lifeguarding but i have been working consistently throughout the year. I like lifeguarding because it’s an impactful way to make money. I like being able to ensure that everyone can safely have fun! Hi, I am Leyna Zorn! I have been a competitive swimmer nearly my whole life and grown up around the pool. Since 12 years old I’ve helped volunteer with my neighborhood swim team, teaching the younger kids how to swim. My first paying job was a neighborhood pool lifeguard at age 15. My love for the water and heart for caring for kids is the reason I lifeguard. My main priority is the safety and well being of everyone under my care.

With 7 years of lifeguarding experience and 6 years of coaching, Lifeguarding and coaching is not just my job but my career. I have been life guarding for five years working for my hometown community pool, as well as a transfer guard for neighboring pools in that area during the summertime. Hello! My name is Selin Tokel and I have been a professional lifeguard for 6 years, a lifeguarding instructor (LGI), and a water safety swim instructor (WSI) for 2 years. I worked at the City of Austin, University of North Texas, and Sunsational Swim School. I have experience teaching swim lessons for all ages including special needs kids. Prior to my aquatics experience, I used to be a synchronized swimmer for almost 10 years and participated in the national team of my home country, Turkey. In my free time, I love swimming, reading, watching movies, listening to music, playing with my cats, and learning about history and other cultures!

My background is in the legal profession working as a legal secretary for many years. I stopped working to raise two children who are now young adults. My daughter is a teacher in the Portland school district, and my son is an artist who lives on the East coast. For the last twenty-four years, I worked as a Special Education Assistant in the Los Angeles Unified School District. For twenty of those years, I worked with at-risk students and students with special needs at the secondary level. These students resided in a residential facility, and I worked closely not only with the entire school staff but with the social workers and staff at the residential placement. I am excited to be part of the Management Team of Happy Swimmers and look forward to working with you.

I have worked as a swim instructor for 3 years and it is one of the most fun jobs that I have had. I love helping children gain confidence in the pool. It is one of the most rewarding feeling in the world to watch a child progress in their swimming ability. I love working with older children between ages 5-12. I have experience working with young children and have been told that I have a talent working with scared children in this age group. I also have experience working with adults of all swimming ability. I am currently a master instructor for Lifetime Fitness.

I have been a Lifeguard for 6 years, three of those years I worked as a waterfront lifeguard at a camp in Austin, Tx. The last 3 years I have worked for Lifetime Fitness in San Antonio as an Aquatics Supervisor in this role I help run swim programming and lifeguard management. As a lifeguard my number one priority is keeping everyone safe and stopping disasters before they happen. I am a fitness enthusiast and I am currently in the hiring process for the San Antonio Fire Department.
