With a strong background in water safety and rescue techniques, Daniele is certified in CPR and first aid, making him well-equipped to handle any emergencies that may arise. Debbie is a graduate of CSUN with a background in teaching Physical Education and Special Education for students with Specific Learning Disabilities. She had worked for LAUSD as a teacher for 37.5 years. She has also been a Professional Lifeguard, Water Safety Instructor and Lifeguard Training Instructor with the American Red Cross and LAUSD. She has taught First Aid and CPR for over 30 years and feels that it is important to give back to the community. She has a strong background in working with the community in planning and scheduling events for the Civic Center Division for LAUSD.  Debbie is excited to be a part of the Instructor Team for JTA CPR and looks forward to being part of the expanding Management Team of Happy Swimmers. In her free time, Debbie loves to hike, ski where ever there is snow, swim and travel.

I am a Swim instructor who has taught lessons for 4 years. I enjoy teaching because I too learn something new each time I give a swim lesson. Swimming is therapeutic to me and I enjoy sharing the therapy with others.

Hi, I’m Edson, a watermen who has been involved in water safety for the last 8 years. I have worked with different departments in the LA area. I have experience the open water environment (lakes and reservoirs), the ocean environment (beaches) and the pool environment. My scope continues to grow as I continue to push the envelope. I enjoy working together with people so that everyone can enjoy a hot summer day at the beach, lake and or pool.

Edson is game to travel just about anywhere in Southern CA, we kid you not. He is passionate about guarding and has taken difficult to fill jobs off the beaten track to keep kids safe. 🙂

I have one and a half years of swimming instruction experience. I’ve taught clients from all ages and skill levels, including mommy and me classes and active duty swim lessons. I believe that learning how to swim should be fun, enjoyable, and safe.

Lifeguard: 

I provided lifeguarding services for Marine Cops base Camp Lejune for 2 years. During my time with them we were required to have 4 hours of training regarding lifeguarding every month. While I was working with them I also acquired my Lifeguard Instructor, and swim instructor certifications. The reason I enjoy lifeguarding so much is because, I believe that patrons of all ages should be able to enjoy themselves and feel safe in the water.

Swim Instructor Bio: Hi, my name is Qi and I am going into my 7th year as a swim instructor. I have taught lessons for various age groups, ranging from parent and child to adult lessons. What I enjoy most from teaching swim lessons is helping my students learn something new and being able to see them improve over time. I believe that anyone can learn how to swim as long as they believe in themselves and are willing to try something different.

Lifeguard Bio: Hi I’m Qi. I have been lifeguarding for the past 6 years. I enjoy making sure everyone is safe and having a great time at the pool. What I like most about lifeguarding events is being able to prevent any accidents from happening so that the parents can feel at ease while their guests are in the pool enjoying themselves.

I’ve been lifeguarding for 2 years now. Before becoming a lifeguard, I started teaching swim lessons about 5 years ago. When I’m not swimming or lifeguarding, you can find me playing music and teaching music, my main instruments are saxophone and flute, but I dabble on everything – drums, ukulele, guitar, piano.

I grew up with a pool in my backyard and so I learned to love the water at a young age. I have four years of experience working as a lifeguard in indoor and outdoor settings as well as guarding summer camp events. My first lifeguard and swim instructor job was at my local YMCA back when I lived in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. After I moved here to San Diego in 2018 I continued to work as a lifeguard and swim instructor in the much sunnier California weather! I believe that water safety is extremely important and so I do not take my job lightly. Working as a lifeguard is lots of fun because I am able to interact with many people while also having the skills and training to keep them safe around the pool!

I first started teaching swim lessons at my local YMCA in 2017. Since then I have 3 years of experience teaching private and group lessons year round. I have the most experience with preschool age groups, but I have taught many lessons from parent-child to elementary levels. The best part about teaching swim lessons is that I get to see kids grow confident in themselves and learn life-saving skills. Teaching swim lessons is so rewarding because I’ve helped many kids learn to not be afraid of the water and learn the importance of water safety.

Living in coast-adjacent states including New York, Massachusetts, Florida, and now California means I’ve spent my whole life swimming and being around water. From a young age I was a competitive swimmer, then certified free diver, and now I work as a swim instructor and lifeguard to provide safe and fun experiences for those trying to enjoy the water like I have! I’ve worked at lakes and pools for the past 3 summers and loved every second of it. Hey I’m Xerxes! I’m an auto mechanic/ lifeguard (as you probably might’ve guessed) and I’ve lived in Los Angeles my whole life. I chose this career because of my interest in the medical field, and swimming of course. Swimming in the ocean has been my favorite weekend activity for quite some time, so I’ve been gaining experience as a lifeguard so that eventually I can patrol the California coast.
