Swim Lesson Tip:
Regarding distractions, the noisier or more stimulus in the swim lesson environment, the less learning. This is why some parents opt for in-home lessons rather than public lessons. On one hand, public lessons can be a great social scene for both parents and kids, and this works for some; for others, however, trust of the water is built more easily in one’s own pool. Simply asking the child their preference may be the key.

Yumi and Jere were wonderful lifeguards when they guarded our end of year pool party on Wednesday June 11 from 11-2. They were in touch with me, were on time and prepared, and were very responsible and knowledgeable. I was so happy to be able to put two adults in charge of our fourth grade class party.
Based on my experience with Yumi Temple and her cohort Jere, I would highly recommend Happy Swimmers.
Thank you for a wonderful experience. So happy we used your business.
Hi Jenn.. wow today was really scary. I had to use my first aid skills on my mom! We work at the same preschool & she had an allergic reaction & went into shock! I did everything I remembered until the paramedics came.. I really can’t thank you enough for teaching me everything I needed to know!
Everything about my experience with Happy Swimmers has been amazing! From the scheduling to the fantastic teacher they sent for my 5 and 6 year old. The instructor, Emma, had to contend with 2 very different personalities along with 2 different levels of swimming experience. She was more than equipped to deal with that and gave each child unparalleled support, encouragement and instruction. I highly recommend this service to all parents that want to give their child a great experience in being water safe!
We have three kids ages 7, 4, and 2 & 1/2. This was our second year having Happy Swimmers, with instructor Trisha Commons, come teach our kids (the two oldest) to swim. I tried another company the year before I tried Happy Swimmers and although the kids learned swim safety, they were bored and did not learn how to enjoy the pool. Trisha got our son, who did not really like swimming, having fun and by the end of last year could swim the entire length of the pool on his own.
Trisha is great with the kids and is flexible in her teaching style to work with different personalities. She is able to get the kids confident in their abilities and teaches them how to swim, but also teaches them how to have fun! I will definitely be asking Happy Swimmers and Trisha to teach the kids again next year.
I have a toddler and a pool and wanted to make sure my son learned water safety. After taking some group classes last summer, I knew I wanted more one-on-one attention at our home. This summer I reviewed several in-home companies and was impressed with Happy Swimmers approach of water safety.
Trish worked with my stubborn 2-yr old 2-3 times a week. Within the first lesson he knew how to climb out of the pool and to ask permission before getting in. Although our goal was to get him water comfortable more than “swimming”, he indeed learned to swim within a few weeks. We extended our lessons and really appreciated Trish’s approach. We will sign up again next summer. Many of our friends with children happened to be present on several lessons and I expect they will also sign up next summer as well.
Hired a happy swimmers for private life guard for a party for over 200 people at my house. The lifeguard was great. She called to confirm before, came on time, and stayed later then we originally signed up because the party went over. She also showed up on time despite there being a black out that because of storms the day before. I highly recommend Happy Swimmers.

I have been instructing swim lessons and lifeguarding for 4 years. I learned how to swim very young in Hawaii and continued swimming all the way until college when I received my lifeguard certification. I was fortunate enough to become an Eagle Scout and teach swimming in the Boy Scouts of America. After joining the Marine Corps I completed my certification for Marine Corps Instructor of Water Survival which is my current occupation. Within the Marine Corps I have been extensively trained in many different water survival and swimming techniques. I enjoy the outdoors and the I feel as though the beach is my second home. The thing I like most about teaching swim lessons and lifeguarding is knowing that I am teaching a skill to others that will potentially save their life one day.
Advanced LG certs: Waterfront lifeguard, Ocean Lifeguard Experience, Wilderness First Aid.
I’ve been teaching swim lessons for 8+ years to children ages 2-18 (as well as adults). I’ve worked with children on every level – from those scared of the water, to kids on a swim team. As a life long competitive swimmer, teaching children to swim and instilling in them a love for the water has always been a passion of mine. In additional to helping children enjoy the water and learn the necessary survival skills, I am also capable of working on specific strokes and techniques with older or more advanced swimmers.
I worked as a lifeguard during high school and college for my local city quarry, and now work in the San Diego metro area. I’ve always enjoyed being in and around the water, so lifeguarding was an easy choice. Allowing people to have a great time while still being safe is something I pride myself in and I look forward to working with you, your family, and your guests!
I serve the San Diego communities of San Diego proper – Everything south of Carlsbad
Hi, I’m Coco! I have been a swim instructor for a few years now, but have been working with kids for most of my life. It all started in Girl Scouts when I got to host my first event. I loved the energy the kids brought to the table, and from that moment, I knew I had to work with them. Experience in Girl Scouts helped me become a babysitter/nanny and camp counselor, and has eventually led me to teaching swim. Being a swim instructor seemed natural for me because I swam competitively in high school and love being in the water, as well as working with people. My favorite part about teaching swim is watching the child progress. The pride and excitement in their eyes when they finally master a skill they had been struggling with is priceless :~). A fun fact about me is that my favorite animal is the polar bear and I could talk your ear off for hours about why they’re so fascinating!
I became a lifeguard in high school and am now in my second year of college. I wanted to be lifeguard because I love swimming so much that didn’t want to be away from the pool while I was out of the water! I am also very concerned with safety ever since I took my very first CPR class with my Girl Scout troop. The instructor inspired me to continue on in my safety education and become AED and First Aid certified, and then eventually become a lifeguard and get my emergency oxygen distribution and blood borne pathogens certifications. I believe that people should have only good experiences in the water, and want to do everything I can to make that happen. I hope that everyone is able to enjoy the pool regardless of their skill level, and always feel safe in the water. A fun fact about me is that I love rock climbing!
I serve the OC, Inland Empire, and San Diego communities of Temecula, Murrieta, Menifee, and Orange, among others.
I just recently started swim instructing about half a year go and have loved every moment. The satisfaction the children get when they have learned a stroke or how to improve it is pure bliss. I feel amazing knowing my job is done when parents come up to me informing me what their child has done at their own pool. Ensuring safety is also a big role in this job and teaching children how to swim makes that so much better.
I have been Lifeguarding for two years now and have loved every moment of it. Maintaining a happy and positive attitude while ensuring safety plays a big role when Lifeguarding, enjoying the job just makes it that much better. Making both the parents and children happy and safe are very important to me.
I serve the San Diego communities of Carlsbad, Oceanside, Vista, San Marcos, among others.
I first started swim instructing last year, working all seasons and now summer. I’ve taught kids from all age groups 6 months to 15 years old. I’ve also taught kids who are very scared of water and kids who are naturals. Previously, I competed on a swim team for 6 years, two in college and four in high school. Therefore, I’m very familiar with proper techniques and stroke work. Because I have also taught kids who didn’t know anything about swimming or just were just too fearful of water, I have learned to make sure kids are having fun while learning but are also safe!
I’ve been lifeguarding for three years, starting at a water park and now I currently work at a pool. I primarily guard birthday parties and know a lot of water games kids love to play. I always make sure the kids are having fun and smiling but most of all are being safe. Lifeguarding and teaching are my passions so I take my job very serious, however I always make sure to have a smile on, ensuring everyone is having fun.
I serve the San Diego communities of Imperial Beach, Chula vista, La jolla, Coronado, Del Mar, downtown San Diego, La mesa, East lake, mission valley, among others.
I have been working as a lifeguard and swim instructor for over 12 years. I began my water experience at the age of 14 when I played water polo. Along with water polo I participated in swimming, my high school and college surf teams. I love being in the water and helping others in the skills to be safe, successful, and have fun in the water. I have taught swim lessons from babies to adults and I feel comfortable and confident working with any type of swimmer. I am looking forward to teaching you or your swimmer the best swimming skills around!
As a lifeguard I pride myself in the recognition of when a swimmer can be in distress and to prevent any incidents. I am looking forward to a Sunny San Diego Summer with all swimmers out there!
I have been teaching swim lessons since I was 16. I began at a Rec Center teaching in small groups. Over the years I taught my friend’s children and their friends etc…I have taught mostly toddler through 6-7 year old students. I love watching them overcome their anxiety if they have it, or watching them blossom as they gain skills and love the water.
I serve the San Diego communities of San Diego, Spring Valley, El Cajon, La Mesa, Lemon Grove, National City, among others.
I have been a swim instructor for 8yrs with diverse students, locations and programs. I have worked in both public and private swim programs and have done many in-home lessons. I have worked with swimmers from 6 months to 79 years old however, the majority of my lessons have been with children 2-12 years old. I also worked as a preschool teacher for three years and a behavior therapist for two years so I have a lot of experience with younger children and children with developmental delays. Being a swim instructor is perfect for me because two of my favorite things are kids and anything to do with water! I love to swim, go to the beach and scuba dive in my free time. Last year I even got to scuba dive with whales in the Great Barrier Reef!
I serve the San Diego communities of North Park, University Heights, Hillcrest, El Cajon, South Park, among others.

Water is my life! I have experience teaching swim lessons (levels ranging from mommy& me to coaching swim team), lifeguarding and competitive swimming. I absolutely love being anywhere near the pool or the ocean! I am inspired to promote fun in the water with an emphasis on water safety practices. I have a special passion for teaching, as I am currently finishing my credentials to be a kindergarten teacher.
